Influenced by Pissarro's bird's eye view of the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, this pristine scene of a clearing near the painter at Éragny contrasts with his depictions of urban life. Pissarro sketched a similar trio of piles, craftsmen with painter, in the evening in contrast to the morning light (private accumulation), a work reviewing the Monet-Piles arrangement of the mid-1890s.
